The holiday weekend is here. Time to slip some burgers on the grill, crack open a cold one, kick up your work boots, clean your gun, and get your crime groove on. Got some double-barreled action for you right here, with that NOWHERE GIRL ...
Screened a great one last night, THE INTERNATIONAL, with Clive Owen and Naomi Watts, and a glittering international cast of hoodlums, spies and Eurotrash slicksters. A great throwback to those 'paranoid thrillers' of the 70's like the PARALAX VIEW and THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR. The critics didn't like it much, but that's because they're not used to that suave, Euro-kinda storytelling. They wanted more of the smash-bang action that's found in the big shootout at the Guggenheim museum toward the end of the story. But that's not the point with this one. Gripping story about The International, a bank in Luxembourg that funds terrorists, military juntas, government black o ps and mob/crime families around the world. Clive's an Interpol agent, and Naomi Watts (good, but miscast) a NY DA investigating the shady doings ... and then run up against a brick wall. The ending's a shocker, and not to be missed. Check out this sleeper if you missed it. Two sniper-scope rifles up!

The Intruder lies on the floor. He raises his head. OW, that HURTS.
He pushes himself up by his arms into a sitting position.
Looks around. April's gone. This is NOT good.
Stripper Bartender STOMPS over to him.
STRIPPER BARTENDER
Get the FUCK outta my bar.
You scared away all the fucking CUSTOMERS.
A siren WHOOP-WHOOPS outside.
Intruder takes off the motorcycle helmet.
Pulls out his ID.

STRIPPER BARTENDER

Sledge sits in an easy chair by the window sipping a scotch.
SLEDGE
You get her yet?
YURI
She, uh -- got away, sir.
SLEDGE
You let her GET AWAY?
YURI
Don’t worry, I get her.
She is driving car of employee of Avi.

Every cop in city will be on her ass
if I tell them she is terrorist.
Pause.
SLEDGE

He clicks shut the phone.

Yuri pulls a notebook out of his pocket.
